Hanover Youth Basketball League is designed to introduce young (beginner) players to the sport while enhancing and fine-tuning the skills of more experienced players. Your child will learn the fundamentals of basketball with age-appropriate skills, drills, and game-play rules.  Our League is set up to help build confidence and ability as the season progresses. Your player will improve their understanding of the sport, shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the season.

• Age-appropriate instruction emphasizes fun, skills improvement, and gameplay.
• All skill levels are welcome –  boys players in 2nd-12th grade and girls players in 3rd-9th grade are evaluated and drafted in an attempt to balance each team.
• Everyone plays at least half of every game.
• No fundraisers.
• Virginia High School League (VHSL) trained officials at every game (Boys 2nd-12th Grade & Girls 3rd-9th Grade)
   

FALL/WINTER 2024-2025 SEASON INFORMATION

• Registration Fees (CURRENT 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR GRADE):
  • Bitty Ballers (CoEd Pre-K & Boys K), Boys 1st Grade, and Girls (K-2nd): 
    • Early Bird Registration Fee: $125 per player through 10/6/24
    • Base Registration Fee: $150 per player (through 10/30/24)
    • Late Registration Fee: $170 per player (starting 10/31/24 if spots are available) 
  • Boys 2nd-12th Grade and Girls 3rd-9th: 
    • Early Bird Registration Fee: $200 per player through 10/6/24
    • Base Registration Fee: $225 per player through 10/30/24
    • Late Registration Fee: $250 per player (starting 10/31/24 if spots are available) 
  • Sibling Discount:  $10 for 2nd child; $15 for 3rd or 4th child (These discounts are applied at checkout)
• Late Registrations: We may be able to accept a limited amount of late registrations for some divisions.  Please email us after 10/30 to let us know what grade your player is in and we will respond with instructions for online registrations.
• Player Evaluations: Sunday, November 3  from 2:30-8:15 pm (See the Player Evaluation Schedule below)
  NOTE: Bitty Ballers (Pre-K / Kindergarten), Boys 1st Grade, and Girls K-2nd Grade players do not have evaluations.
  • While we strongly encourage all players to attend evaluations, we understand that some families and players may have conflicts with the player evaluation schedule. Players who aren't able to attend evaluations will still be placed on a team. There's no need to let us know that your player CAN'T make evaluations.
• Team Creation / Drafts: November 3-13
• Schedule: November 16, 2024 - March 2, 2025
  • Dates may be subject to change considering extenuating circumstances.  
  • League games and practices for most divisions will be scheduled on weekends. 
    • We project the following divisions will be played primarily on Saturdays (9:00 am - 5:30 pm) in Hanover County schools:
      Bitty Ballers, Boys 1st Grade, Girls K-2nd Grade, Boys 2nd, Boys 3rd, Girls 3rd-5th Grade, and Girls 6th-9th Grade
    • We project the following divisions will be played on Sundays Sundays (12:30 - 8:30 pm) with the MS and HS-aged divisions played at Big Ben's Home Court and the elementary-aged divisions played in Hanover County schools:
      Boys 4th Grade, Boys 5th Grade, Boys 6th-7th Grade, Boys 8th-9th Grade, and Boys 10th-12th Grade 
    • NOTE: Some divisions may have some events on weeknights in the event of extenuating circumstances.   The final schedule will depend on registration numbers and facility needs.
• Eligibility: Boys and Girls Players in Pre-K - 12th grade
  • Hanover County Virginia and non-Hanover County residents are welcome.
  • Players will be grouped into Divisions by current grades as of the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Players with conflicts are welcome, but please advise us of potential scheduling conflicts during registration.

Sunday, June 2, 2024 Player Evaluation and Division Information:

We will host our Player Evaluations at Mechanicsville High School on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Reminder: All Registrations and Player Evaluations are for this current school year, 2023-2024, not the rising year in the upcoming fall. If you registered in error, please correct this or contact us.

Players: Please come to evaluations dressed to play basketball and ready to show your skills in drills and scrimmages, but most of all, have FUN! Players who come to evaluations will be issued a HYBL t-shirt corresponding with their jersey size. They will wear these t-shirts at Evaluations.

Coaches: If you registered to coach we will reach out early next week with more information. Please plan to arrive at least 15-20 minutes before your division's evaluation to help organize players and prepare drills. We will also do our best to form teams after the evaluations or Monday, June 3 as the season starts on June 8.

We will NOT have player evaluations for the following divisions:

• Bitty Ballers (Pre-K and Boys K)
• Boys 1st Grade
• Girls K-2nd Grade
• Girls 6th-9th Grade (Be aware that our registration numbers are low for this division. We may not have enough players to fill out this age group.)
